Planning a Modular Kitchen in Hyderabad? Here’s What the Budget Really Looks Like

Most families in Hyderabad walk into a showroom, see a beautiful display kitchen, and leave with a quote that’s either far higher or suspiciously lower than they expected. Then begins the confusion, why does one design company quote ₹2.2 lakhs and another ₹4.5 lakhs for the same 10-foot kitchen?

The short answer: they’re not quoting the same thing. The finish, the plywood grade, the hinges, the brand of fittings – every single one of those variables shifts the number. This guide breaks it down so you can read a quote intelligently and make a decision you won’t regret once the kitchen is installed and Hyderabad’s monsoon humidity gets to work.

What Actually Determines Modular Kitchen Cost

Kitchen price break down

The price of a modular kitchen is built from five components. Most fights with contractors happen because clients don’t know which one they’re arguing about.

Carcass material – the box structure that everything else mounts on. This is the backbone. BWP (boiling waterproof) plywood is the standard for Hyderabad kitchens because the humidity here is no joke. In a 3BHK near Kondapur or Manikonda, you’ll see moisture levels spike after June every year. Cheap MDF carcasses look fine on day one and swell by monsoon two. At D’leaps, we use 18mm BWP plywood for carcasses — it costs more upfront, but you’re not dismantling the kitchen in three years.

Shutter finish – the face of your cabinets, and where most of the aesthetic decisions (and budget swings) happen. More on this below.

Hardware – hinges, drawer channels, soft-close mechanisms, pull-out baskets, corner solutions. This is where cheap quotes cut corners. A Hettich or Häfele soft-close hinge lasts a decade of daily use. A no-brand hinge fails in two years, and you spend the next eight listening to the cabinet door slam every morning.

Countertop – granite remains the most popular in Hyderabad. Quartz is growing, especially in Gachibowli and Kokapet where homeowners have seen it in project sample flats. Corian (solid surface) sits at the premium end.

Accessories – chimney, sink, pull-outs, bottle racks, wicker baskets, tandem boxes. These are often quoted separately or left out of base prices entirely, which is why you should always ask for an itemised quote.

Modular Kitchen Cost in Hyderabad by Shutter Finish

The cost of a kitchen by shutter finish

This is the biggest price driver. For a standard 10-linear-feet kitchen with base cabinets, wall cabinets, and a loft:

Laminate Finish – ₹1.5L to ₹2.5L

Laminate is the workhorse of modular kitchens in Hyderabad. It handles heat reasonably well, comes in hundreds of textures and colours (matte, wood grain, solid), and cleans easily. For a busy joint-family kitchen where the chimney is running for three meals a day, laminate holds up better than most people expect.

The catch: it can chip at edges and corners if the laminate is thin (0.8mm and below). Good execution requires precision in the edge banding — the narrow strip that covers the ply edge. Done well, you won’t notice the joint. Done poorly, it peels within a year.

Budget range for a 10-ft kitchen: ₹1.5L–₹2.5L including BWP carcass, premium laminate (1mm), standard hardware, and granite countertop.

Acrylic Finish – ₹2.5L to ₹4L

Acrylic gives you that glossy, high-gloss look that clients see in showrooms and immediately fall in love with. It’s a UV-bonded sheet applied over MDF or plywood, and it photographs beautifully. We hear this one from almost every client who walks into our L.B. Nagar studio.

Here’s what we also tell them: acrylic shows fingerprints the moment you touch it. In a kitchen where someone’s making roti or frying fish, you’ll be wiping the shutters every single day. It also scratches more easily than laminate, and deep scratches don’t buff out. That said, if the kitchen is more of a semi-open showpiece in an apartment where cooking is moderate and aesthetics are a priority, acrylic delivers a look that laminate can’t fully replicate.

Budget range: ₹2.5L–₹4L for a 10-ft kitchen with good hardware and quartz or granite top.

PU (Polyurethane) Finish – ₹3.5L to ₹6L+

PU is the finish you want if you want something that looks and feels premium but isn’t as high-maintenance as acrylic. It’s spray-applied over MDF or plywood in a factory setting, giving a silky smooth surface with good depth of colour. Matte PU in particular has become very popular in Hyderabad’s newer villa projects in Narsingi and Mokila.

PU is more scratch-resistant than acrylic, handles humidity better than MDF-based alternatives, and the colour quality is excellent. The price reflects all of that.

Budget range: ₹3.5L–₹6L+ depending on layout complexity and hardware specification.

How Kitchen Layout Changes Your Budget

Kitchen Layout

The layout multiplies everything – more running feet means more material, more labour, more hardware.

A straight/single-wall kitchen (8–10 ft) is the most economical. Common in 2BHK apartments in Hyderabad where the kitchen is a separate room with limited space.

An L-shaped kitchen (12–16 ft combined) is the most popular in Hyderabad’s 3BHK segment. It gives you a corner solution (usually a carousel or Lemans unit), which adds ₹8,000–₹20,000 to the budget depending on the brand.

A U-shaped kitchen (18–24 ft) shows up in larger flats and villas. Two corner solutions, maximum storage, and a budget that can push past ₹6L for a well-specified PU or acrylic kitchen with premium hardware.

A Parallel (Galley) kitchens are less common but increasingly requested in open-plan designs in Hyderabad. They’re efficient for cooking workflows but require careful planning so the two sides don’t create a cramped corridor.

The Hardware Question — Where Cheap Quotes Hide Their Savings

If you get a quote that seems 30–40% lower than everyone else’s, look at the hardware line item. Hinges, drawer channels, and soft-close mechanisms are often where the margin gets recovered.

Brands to recognise: Ebco, Hettich, Häfele, Blum are the industry benchmarks. Local brands which gives warranty are acceptable mid-tier options. Anything else – ask to see the brand name and look it up. We’ve seen clients come to us two years after installation wanting us to replace drawer channels that failed because the previous kitchen used unbranded Chinese hardware that wasn’t rated for daily use.

Soft-close hinges and channels aren’t a luxury. In a household with children, they prevent a decade of slammed cabinet doors. Budget ₹15,000–₹30,000 for good hardware across a full kitchen. It’s worth every rupee.

What D’leaps Clients in Hyderabad Typically Spend

Across the kitchens we’ve completed in Hyderabad and Tirupati since 2020, here’s how budgets typically break down:

– 2BHK kitchen, straight layout, laminate finish, good hardware: ₹1.8L–₹2.2L
– 3BHK, L-shaped kitchen, acrylic finish, Hettich hardware, quartz top: ₹3.2L–₹3.8L
– 3BHK, L-shaped, PU matte finish, Blum hardware, quartz top: ₹4.5L–₹5.5L
– Villa kitchen, U-shaped, PU finish, full premium hardware, island unit: ₹6L–₹9L+

These are installed prices — design, material, labour, and basic civil coordination included. What’s generally excluded: chimney, sink, and hob (unless specified), electrical work for dedicated circuits, and plumbing modifications if the drain point needs to shift.

Red Flags When Comparing Modular Kitchen Quotes in Hyderabad

A few things that should prompt follow-up questions:

  • “Commercial plywood” without specifying grade. Ask if it’s BWP or plain MR (moisture-resistant) grade. MR is cheaper and fine for furniture in dry areas — not for kitchens.
  • Lump-sum quotes without itemisation. A credible designer can tell you the per-unit cost of each cabinet, the hardware brand, the countertop material and thickness. If they can’t or won’t, that’s a problem.
  • “Acrylic finish” without specifying the backing material. Acrylic on MDF versus acrylic on plywood is a meaningful difference in Hyderabad’s climate.
  • No mention of installation warranty. Ask explicitly. At D’leaps, we stand behind our installations. If a shutter is misaligned or a hinge fails within the warranty period, we come back.

FAQ

How long does a modular kitchen installation take in Hyderabad?

For a standard 3BHK kitchen, fabrication typically takes 3–4 weeks after design sign-off and material selection. Installation on site takes 3–5 days. Allow for an additional day or two if civil work (tiling, dado, electrical points) needs to be completed first.

Is BWP plywood really necessary or is it a sales upsell?

For kitchens, yes — it’s necessary. Hyderabad’s monsoon season runs June through October, and even kitchens with good ventilation see humidity spikes. MR plywood will delaminate or swell over time near the sink and dishwasher area. BWP costs roughly 15–20% more than commercial plywood but protects your kitchen for 10+ years.

Can I mix finishes — say acrylic for upper cabinets and laminate for lower?

Absolutely. It’s a smart approach for clients who want the aesthetic of acrylic without the fingerprint maintenance on lower shutters (which get touched most). The two finishes can be colour-matched reasonably well.

How much does a modular kitchen cost with a chimney and hob included?

A good chimney (Faber, Elica, or similar) adds ₹15,000–₹40,000 to your budget depending on suction capacity. A gas hob adds ₹8,000–₹20,000. Factor these in when comparing total kitchen budgets.

Do you serve clients outside Hyderabad?

D’leaps has a studio in Tirupati and serves clients across the Tirupati belt in addition to our main clientele across Hyderabad — Gachibowli, Kondapur, L.B. Nagar, Manikonda, Kokapet, and surrounding areas.
